Arizona Paycheck FAQ
Common questions about paychecks and taxes in Arizona
What is the Arizona state income tax rate?
A flat 2.5% of Arizona taxable income. The Arizona Department of Revenue's 2026 estimated-tax booklet gives 2.5% as the rate for tax year 2026.
What is Arizona's standard deduction?
$15,750 for single and married-filing-separately filers, $31,500 for married filing jointly and $23,625 for head of household. A 2026 law (HB 4168) set them, retroactive to tax year 2025, at the same amounts as the federal 2025 standard deduction. Arizona indexes them for inflation, but the 2026 figures aren't published yet, so the calculator uses the 2025 amounts.
How does a qualifying widow(er) file in Arizona?
As head of household. Arizona's Form 140 instructions let anyone who qualifies as a qualifying widow(er) on the federal return file as head of household, so the calculator gives that status the $23,625 deduction.
How do Arizona employers withhold state tax?
As a percentage of gross taxable wages that you choose on Form A-4, from 0.5% to 3.5% (2.0% if you don't file one). Bonuses get the same percentage. Your withholding can differ from the tax this calculator estimates, which is 2.5% after the standard deduction.
