Indiana Paycheck FAQ
Common questions about paychecks and taxes in Indiana
What is the Indiana state income tax rate for 2026?
2.95% of Indiana adjusted gross income, set in state law for tax years starting in 2026. It was 3% in 2025, and the law schedules 2.9% for 2027. The rate is the same for every filing status.
Does Indiana have a standard deduction?
No. Indiana subtracts a fixed $1,000 personal exemption for you, plus $1,000 for your spouse on a joint return, so $2,000. Single, head-of-household, married-filing-separately and qualifying widow(er) filers take $1,000. The calculator leaves out dependent exemptions ($1,500 per dependent child) and the extra $1,000 at 65 or older or blind.
Does Indiana have county income taxes?
Yes. Every Indiana county levies a county income tax, withheld along with the state tax. For 2026 the rates run from 0.5% (Porter County) to 3% (Randolph County), according to the Department of Revenue's withholding notice. This calculator shows the state tax only, so add your county's rate to estimate your full Indiana withholding.
How much Indiana tax is withheld from a bonus?
2.95% of the bonus, plus your county's rate. Indiana's withholding notice says one-time payments such as a bonus check are withheld without exemptions.
