Kentucky Paycheck FAQ
Common questions about paychecks and taxes in Kentucky
What is the Kentucky state income tax rate for 2026?
A flat 3.5% of net income for tax years starting on or after January 1, 2026, down from 4% in 2024 and 2025. From 2027 the rate may be cut further under an annual process set in state law.
What is Kentucky's standard deduction?
$3,360 for 2026, $90 more than in 2025; Kentucky adjusts it for inflation each year. It's the same for single, head-of-household, married and widowed filers, and a married couple filing a joint return gets only one $3,360 deduction. If both spouses have income, they can instead file separately on a combined return and each take $3,360, which can save up to $117.60 a year; the calculator uses the joint figure.
Does Kentucky have local income taxes?
Many Kentucky cities and counties levy occupational license taxes on wages. They're separate from the state income tax, and this calculator doesn't include them.
How much Kentucky tax is withheld from a bonus?
Kentucky has no flat bonus rate. Its rules add a bonus to your regular wages for the pay period and withhold on the total. Because the rate is flat, that comes to 3.5% of the bonus.
